A graduate of Purdue University, Lew Burger was president of LeTourneau-Westinghouse, a Peoria-based heavy equipment manufacturer and Caterpillar competitor. When American Standard bought LeTourneau’s parent company, he became its group executive. Lew retired from American Standard as senior vice president of construction and mining equipment in 1977.
In addition to business acumen, Lew’s record of public service stands out in his 33 years in Peoria. Some of the most notable leadership positions he took on included the chairing, planning, and building of the $64 million civic center, incorporator and board member of the Convention and Visitors Bureau, chairman of the board for the Bradley Board of Trustees, and founder and the past chairman of the Peoria Area Community Foundation. Mr. Burger’s dedication and desire to help those in need has left a lasting mark in the Peoria community.
