Robert A. McCord

Robert McCord graduated from Peoria High School in 1938 before attending Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois and earning his Bachelor of Arts from the University of Chicago in 1946. He went on to earn his Jurist Doctorate Degree in 1948 from the University of Chicago and practiced law in Peoria until 1968. It was in 1948 that he followed in the footsteps of his father and grandfather to begin his 42-year career with Illinois Mutual Life Insurance Company, becoming CEO in 1963. Robert’s grandfather, O.L. McCord founded the company in 1910.
Under the leadership of Robert McCord, Illinois Mutual grew from a few employees and assets of $2 million in the early 1960s to more than 200 employees and $315 million at his retirement in 1990.
